There’s something very special about Goolwa
Our beautiful clean environment makes Goolwa a popular destination for travellers. What most people don’t realise is the number and variety of places to eat and/or drink. There are 36 of them - from coffee and cake to fine dining, or fish and chips by the water.
While-away the hours wandering through a myriad of art galleries and gift shops stocked with locally made goods - you’re sure to find that special something to take home.
If you love the beauty and adventure of the outdoors, there are walking and bike trails as well as parks, gardens and playgrounds. Or if you prefer water-based activities, we have the river, the Coorong and the sea – go for a gentle paddle, some adrenalin-filled action, or take a guided tour.
The township and waters of Goolwa are full of history. Learn about the first white settlement here, the river trade and ship building at the wharf and Australia’s first passenger railway.
Our unique features are the Murray Mouth and the combination of steam transport – nowhere else in the world can you farewell the River Murray to the ocean then take a ride on a paddle steamer and steam train all in the same day.
Spending time in Goolwa really is one of life’s little pleasures. There is something for all the family and we welcome you to share it with us. The place we love. The place we call home.
